We need your help

Well, it started as a lackadaisical friday morning. Enjoy some breakfast, surf the net, watch some TV. You know, a slippers pajamas and sweatshirt kind of morning. Then the phone rings. "Get your ass over here."

It's moving day for my brother, and if there's anything in the world I love more than moving it's helping others pack their stuff. So I threw on some clothes and headed on over to the "halloween house".

My brother and his fiance rent a small 1 bedroom apartment in a old old house that's been converted to apartments. It's a white two-story affair with dead cars sitting around the property and all the paint is peeling off. And I think I saw someone standing in one of the 2nd story windows, holding a butcher knife. Ok, maybe I didn't, but it would be very fitting.

I show up, and some stuff is packed away in boxes, but there's still alot to be put away yet. My brother and my dad are already moving things out to the truck, so I stand around and surpervise for a bit.

"That looks pretty heavy, careful with that."
"Why don't you pack that one more to the front."

After some glares, I decide I better step in and make sure it gets done right. First I need to go inside and make sure the cookie jar is empty. All those extra cookies make those things hard to carry. After I'd lightened the cookie jar a bit, and received a few more glares, I started picking at things and putting them in boxes. Once the truck had been filled up, it was time to go grab a Uhaul trailer. For some reason they assigned me with this task. Due to my expert trailer handling abilites this was completed in record time, and I was able to get back to supervising. Don't know what they did without me for that short time but they seemed to have managed.

All in all, we had that apartment completely packed up in about an hours time. Now the old man gets to tow that thing to Idaho and grumble about the gas mileage the whole way. At one point I heard him say something about when he and my mother moved out after they'd graduated college. I guess they only needed one pickup to carry everything they had.

Now I get to look forward to when I move. Wonder who I can call, and tell them to "Get your ass over here". Should be about the most fun part of the experience and I'm looking forward to it. Word to the wise, dont be the last of your friends and families to move out of a town.

Bye gones, be bye gones

Went out and had a few beers with my brother and his fiance. It was a good time, and since it was Thursday at Old Chicago, we got to keep our pint glasses! Definite plus.

Tomorrow is my last full day in town, time to finish up the christmas shopping, and get rid of some furniture. Then it's off to mom and dad's for christmas. I'm gettin pretty excited already.

It's always fun to find out how other people do their christmas present unwrapping, unless they're Jehovah Witness'. Do they open them all on Christmas Eve? Or do they do it in the morning? Is it one present at a time? I prefer my family's method. Grab and go. And admittedly, it's a much slower pace then when I was a little shit, but it's still a lot of fun. My mother decorates our house beautifully, but on christmas morning it looks like someone stuck santa's bag in a blender. And I would have it no other way.

The journey approaches

Interesting title, but I'm not really wandering around yet. In under a month, I'm off to a Law Enforcement Ranger Training program. And from there, it's time to find a job. One of the wonders of finding a job with the gov't is that there are jobs EVERYWHERE! My options will range from Florida to Alaska to Arizona to the Statue of Liberty. I'm pretty excited.

For now, I'm just taking advantage of the last few weeks of video games that I can enjoy for a while. Once I'm at school. No games! None at all. It will be tough, but I'll try to survive.
